With instances of piracy around the globe skyrocketing, what are the implications of such activity to America on a national and global scale?  The unprecedented number of attacks in the Gulf of Aden off the Somali coast puts commerce lines and trade routes in jeopardy, as well as placing sailors in danger.  Why are the Somali people resorting to piracy, why can’t the vessels defend themselves, and what does the rest of 2009 hold for commercial vessels on the global seas?
